Narcissistic abuse

About

Narcissistic abuse is a form of emotional and psychological abuse perpetrated by individuals with narcissistic tendencies or narcissistic personality disorder. It involves a pattern of behavior aimed at controlling, belittling, and manipulating victims, often leaving them feeling confused, worthless, and doubting their own reality—a phenomenon known as gaslighting. Victims may experience a range of abusive tactics, including excessive criticism, emotional withholding, public humiliation, jealousy, and possessive behaviors, all designed to undermine their self-esteem and independence.

This type of abuse can occur in various relationships, including romantic partnerships, familial connections, and even in the workplace. The impact on the victims can be profound, leading to long-term psychological effects such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and a diminished sense of self-worth

Support for victims of narcissistic abuse involves validating their experiences, helping them to identify and set boundaries, and working on rebuilding their self-confidence.
