PTSD

About

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition triggered by experiencing or witnessing a terrifying or traumatic event. Symptoms can include flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety, and uncontrollable thoughts about the event. Individuals with PTSD may also experience intense emotional distress when reminded of the trauma, as well as physical reactions, such as increased heart rate or sweating, when they recall the event. These symptoms can significantly impact daily functioning, relationships, and overall quality of life.

PTSD can affect anyone who has been through a trauma, including survivors of physical and sexual assault, military combat, natural disasters, serious accidents, or other life-threatening experiences. The path to healing from PTSD is personal and varies from one individual to another. It often involves therapy, which can include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), among others. Medication may also be prescribed to help manage symptoms.
